Custom drapes were not in my budget, so I did a ton of research and purchased affordable, faux linen pinch pleat curtains from Amazon. They make our organic modern living room feel so cozy!

This post covers:

What is the difference between drapes and curtains?

While there is not a clear cut distinction, curtains tend to be less formal and can be sheer or shorter lengths. Drapes are more formal, made from heavier fabrics, and reach to the floor or puddle. I will use both terms interchangeably in this review.

The Best Amazon Curtains for a Designer Look

If you follow any home decor or interior design accounts on Instagram or TikTok, you may have seen these viral Amazon curtains. I’m not on board with every decorating trend, but these drapes deserve to be famous!

Here’s why: If you have ever researched custom curtains, you’ll know that they can be very expensive, often thousands of dollars. Of course you can purchase inexpensive curtains at a variety of stores, but they often look cheap and are made of low quality textiles.

Enter the TwoPages Liz curtains. They are available on Amazon, come in a variety of sizes and colors, and look like high end pinch pleat drapes at a fraction of the cost. In my opinion, they are the best Amazon curtains!

Keep reading for all of the details about our pinch pleated curtains including the color, width, length, and tips for hanging curtain panels.

How to Order the Viral Amazon Curtains

This section will be your guide to ordering custom curtains for your home.

1. Choosing a Color

pinch pleat amazon curtains in living room

For our living room, I was on the hunt for warm greige curtains. I found a few designer options that I loved, but they were out of my price range.

I eventually came across these pinch pleat drapes in the color grey beige. They are more of an investment than Target or IKEA curtains, but still a bargain compared to high end custom drapery. I saved up, placed my order, and waited a few weeks for delivery!

I was a little unsure about the “grey beige” color when the curtains first arrived because I was expecting them to be cooler in tone. According to the Amazon reviews, TWOPAGES has great customer service, but it would have been a bit of work to repack and ship them.

There is always some risk when ordering online, so I highly recommend ordering the fabric sample book.

However, after living with the drapes for a few days I decided that I liked the warm tone! Ever since I painted our walls white (Polar Bear by Behr) a few years ago, I felt bored with our white curtains. The new grey beige drapes add so much warmth and coziness and look way more expensive than they actually are.

Pro tip: Order the fabric sample book to see all of the fabric swatches in your space!

2. Choosing a Width and Length

affordable curtains with pleats in living room with white walls

Our affordable pinch pleat drapes come in many widths and lengths. I chose the 52 W x 96 L inch curtain panels. For reference, our ceilings are 9 feet tall and our windows are 34 inches wide.

For a designer look, curtains should be hung wide and high. I typically hang my curtain rod 2 inches down from the crown molding (or ceiling if there is no molding), and 10-12 inches out from the edge of the window.

We do not typically close the curtains since we also have woven wood roman shades (color: capri maple), but the curtains are functional and do cover the windows when closed.

Here is a more recent photo showing the drapes a little more spread out. Also, our new furniture!

Understanding Curtain Width

The width you choose to order refers to the fully extended width of the curtain panel.

On the other hand, the “stacked width” refers to how wide the drapes are when the pleats are fully pushed together. TwoPages notes that the stacked width will be about 20% of the full width of the curtain panel.

This means that our 52 inch width drapes are about 10.4 inches wide when stacked (52 x 0.2). In the photo above, you can see that I spread the curtains out a little more.

3. Choosing Unlined or Lined Curtains

You have the option of choosing whether you would liked unlined or lined curtains. Here are the most popular options and links to the listings on Amazon, as they can be hard to find!

Unlined Curtains

We have the TwoPages unlined curtains in our living room. The unlined fabric blocks about 60% of the light, according to the product description. In my photos, you can see that light filters through the drapes, which is fine since these four panels are purely decorative.

We also have two unlined panels near our breakfast table and they do diffuse the afternoon sun that shines through our back door. However, the sun can still be bright when it shines directly behind the curtains.

Room Darkening Curtains

I recently added the same pinch pleat curtains with a room darkening liner to our dining room! This is a 140 gsm liner that blocks about 70% of the light. I really like how it prevents the color of the curtains from looking washed out, so if you can spend a little more I would recommend this liner.

Our dining room curtains are a little wider than the living room, I went for 86″ W to have more pleats. More photos here.

Blackout Curtains

Finally, you can also purchase these curtains with a blackout liner. This is a 220 gsm liner that blocks about 80% of the light. If you are shopping for bedroom curtains, this might be a good option for you!

How to Hang Pinch Pleat Curtains on a Rod

1. Hanging the Curtain Rod

Here are some tips for the hanging the rod for your Amazon pinch pleat curtains.

Curtains should “kiss the floor.” Be sure to measure before hanging your rod so that the curtains will just barely touch the floor. The drapes come with adjustable “ratchet system” pin hooks, which allow you to fine tune the height.

Hang the rod wide and high. You should always hang your rod as high as possible (this will determine which drapery length you should order) and wider than the window so that the drapes do not obstruct the window when opened.

In the photo above, you can see that the rod over my sliding glass door is much higher than the door, to match the rod above the windows. If you follow this method, your room will appear taller, and your windows will appear larger!

Make sure the rod is secure. It is important to hit a stud when installing the brackets, or to properly anchor them. In my experience, regular drywall anchors don’t hold curtain rods well. Where I could not hit studs, I used toggle bolts combined with a few spare washers.

Slide the curtain rings onto the rod. Finally, hang the rod on the brackets. This step will take two people for a wide window. I have been known to do this myself when I’m feeling impatient, but I do not recommend it! 😉

My Curtain Rod and Rings

To hang the pinch pleat drapes you will need curtain rings and drapery pin hooks. Pin hooks are included with the curtains, so you do not need to purchase them separately.

I used the HUGAD rod, SYRLIG rings, RAFFIG finials, and BETYDLIG wall brackets from IKEA. You will need 9 rings per curtain panel if you chose the 52 inch width like me.

For another option, this curtain rod and these curtain rings from Amazon are very similar and highly rated!

2. Hanging the Pinch Pleat Drapes

Secondly, here are some tips for hanging the Amazon curtains once the rod is up.

Adjust the drapery pin hooks before hanging. Slide the plastic hooks onto the back of the pleats. The included hooks use an adjustable “ratchet system” with about 12 notches. I ended up having my hooks set about halfway down.

If you accidentally adjust the hook too far down, simply slide the hook all the way off of the bottom of the pin and then start it again at the top. It is easier to adjust the hooks before hanging the curtains, but you can always do it afterwards if necessary.

Finally, hang the curtains! Once you have the drapery hooks attached to the curtains, stand on a stable ladder and connect the plastic drapery hook to the metal hook on the curtain ring. I shared a reel of the installation process if you would like to see.

Viral Amazon Curtains Honest Review

In case you have been eyeing the TwoPages pinch pleat drapes from Amazon, I thought I would share a few pros and cons that may help you decide if they are a good fit for your space.

TwoPages Curtains Pros

  1. Look for less. A bargain compared to custom drapery.
  2. Fabric weight and quality. Made from 350GSM faux linen with texture.
  3. Easy installation. These were much easier to hang than my previous pinch pleats.
  4. Variety of colors. Available in lots of neutrals and colors to match your style.
  5. Machine washable. Practical for all rooms and easy to care for.
  6. Customer service. I did not personally interact with TwoPages, but according to the Amazon reviews their service is very good.

TwoPages Curtains Cons

  1. Price. A great “middle of the road” option, but still more expensive than Target or IKEA.
  2. Ship time. My drapes arrived ahead of schedule and I didn’t have any issues, but you should expect to wait at least a few weeks.
  3. Require steaming or ironing. All drapery benefits from steaming. Because the fabric is on the thicker side, it took several passes to get all of the wrinkles out.
  4. Hard to choose a color online. Consider ordering the sample book so you know exactly what to expect.

To sum up, personally I feel that these viral Amazon curtains are a great option if you want to achieve a designer look, on a budget.

  2. Your home is stunning! I also love your bamboo shades as well. Could you please tell me which color you purchased? Thank you!

    1. Hello Arien! Ours are Capri Maple with the privacy liner 🙂

  3. Do these drapes also come lined?

  4. Hi there! Can I ask, how wide are your windows. I read where you purchased the 52inch width drapes so I’m trying to compare to my windows. Would love to know the width of yours to do that comparison and know which size would be best for me and our windows. Thanks so much! Looks great!!

    1. Thank you so much Laura! So sorry for the delay. The windows in our living room are 34 inches wide and 70 inches high. If you have larger windows I would choose wider drapes to help balance the width of the window. Hope that helps!

    2. Joanne Nguyen says:

Love it! How did you measure out and figure out the width needed for your curtains to also account for the fullness of the curtains?
I have windows similar to yours where there is not much wall between each window, mainly window casing. I want the curtains to be able to cover the windows as well, but I don’t know how to measure it.

      1. Thanks so much Laura! We have the 52 inch width curtains and for reference, our windows are 34 inches wide. If you have wider windows I would choose wider drapes to help balance the width of the window. Hope that helps!

  5. Hi Caitlin!
Your home is gorgeous!! Are you able to share the link for the bamboo shades?

  6. Curtains Help says:

Hi there! I would love your advise on my window situation. I have 5 windows in my living room that look out to our front porch. 3 on main wall and one on each side wall. The windows are only two feet apart from one another. I would love to hang curtains from higher than the window trim but don’t know if I should use one continuous rod or individual rods. Or, maybe no curtains at all. It might be too much. What do you think? I know it’s hard without a pic.
    Thank you!

    1. Hello! You could easily recreate this look with that layout, just be sure to use a sturdy rod and install it securely into studs! With the extra space between windows you would want to purchase wider curtains than mine so that there are more pleats. I do not think that you could do individual rods so close together, especially as I like to hang my curtain rods at least 10 inches outside the window. Hope that helps!

  7. I have the exact same window bank as yours. How many 52 in panels did you buy? It looks like you have just 4 panels. Or are there 2 panels in each of those groups?

    1. Hi Norma! You are correct, this is 4 panels.

  8. Hi! I love this look! I have 3 windows in my bedroom and would like to do a similar look. There’s about 3ft between the windows though, how wide do you suggest I get them? The sizing seems so confusing to me.

    1. Hi Abigail! You will want to consider the “stacked width” of the panel, which refers to how wide the drapes are when the pleats are pushed together. The product info on Amazon says that the stacked width is 20% of the drapery width. For example, our 52 inch width drapes are 10.4 inches wide when stacked (52 x 20%).

If you need to cover 3 feet (36 inches) you would want to make sure the stacked width will cover that space, unless you plan to keep the drapes more spread out. So you would probably want the widest drapes, 150 inches, which would have a stacked with of 30 inches, and you could have them a little spread out. Or you can order a custom width here: https://rstyle.me/+dAHO1bpATREyQzY1QSfyCw

I do not know the width of your windows so make sure to calculate it yourself and confirm that the drapes will fully cover the windows when closed. Hope that helps!

  9. I bought these same curtains based on your recommendation but idk what I’m doing wrong. Our curtains pucker between the pleats, instead of in towards the wall. Do you think we hung them wrong or why would this be happening? I’d appreciate any help!

    1. Hi Sam! Without a photo I cannot know for sure, but I think this is normal! Pinch pleat drapes sometimes need to be “trained” to fold correctly when opened. The ones over my sliding door sometimes do this and I have been meaning to train them. There are various methods if you Google “how to train pinch pleat drapes.”

  10. I think you’ve switched couches, so I can’t find any info about the one above. This white with the tufts (is that the right word)…please share where I might find this couch. It looks so, so nice.

    1. Hi Angela! Thank you so much! Our sectional was from a local store years ago and unfortunately I have never found it online. It was the Tribeca sectional by Broyhill. Here is an option from West Elm that you may like! https://rstyle.me/+vU6kimrfvtHOPMb1q1cM-A Hope that helps 🙂

  11. I noticed you mentioned your patio door, where you might have curtains, do you have any photos of that? I am trying to do Curtains near the wall of my sliding patio door, layering curtains, with a sheer and then a two page curtain on top. Really curious if you would be open to consult on what I have planned to make sure it looks right.

    1. Hi Lindsay! Yes, you can see a better view of our sliding back door to the patio with the curtains in my Instagram reel, and a photo in this post. I am not offering consults at this time but I would recommend following the same instructions that are outlined in the “Width and Length” section above. Also, I suggest hanging the curtain rod over the sliding door at the same height as the curtain rod over the windows for a cohesive look. Hope that helps! 🙂

  12. BLACKOUT CURTAINS says:

    Impressive! Thanks for sharing this.

    1. Thank you so much! 🙂

  13. Thank you for this post. Love your taste and aesthetics! I checked the two page website to order for my house. With single panel 52×100 comes upto around $160. I have lot of windows in my house almost all the walls have 2-3 windows. Can you please recommend anything affordable?

    1. Hi Shika! Thanks so much for the comment. The cost of the drapes can definitely add up if you need to cover all of the windows in your home! I used these in my living room and dining room where I was willing to spend a little more, but for bedrooms I like these curtains from Target. Another option is IKEA curtains! It will require more work to get the pinch pleat look, but they are very affordable. Hope that helps!

  14. Elizabeth says:

These are beautiful! If I could please get your take…How should I handle a large window that does NOT have space (wall or moulding) between the windows? We currently have 3 sets of wood blinds and curtains on either side which looks very heavy. I much prefer your look with panels in between. Would that be too overpowering for my space considering there is no moulding/wall in between our windows? Thanks for any advice!

    1. Hi Elizabeth! Thanks so much! 🙂 If you have a very wide window, you can still break it up with drapes. I would just be sure to get the room darkening or blackout liner (either from the TwoPages website or from Amazon) so that the light does not blow out the color of the curtains from behind. Hope that helps!

  15. Christine says:

Hi, did you add the memory shape to your Liz curtains? Trying to decide if doubling the price is worth it! Thanks!!

    1. Hi Christine! Thanks for the comment. I did not get the memory shaping, but have heard from others that it makes the hanging process easier. I did spend some time steaming and memory training the drapes myself. An easy way to do this is by aligning the pleats all the way down once the curtains are hanging, and then wrapping them with painters tape at the bottom, middle, and top. Leave this for a few days to train the curtains. If you would rather skip this step, consider getting the memory shaping! Hope that helps 🙂

  16. They are over the top expensive now. Pottery barn costs less and there are cheaper options on Amazon. Guess all the posts by influencers made the costs go up.

    1. Hi Kristel! These definitely aren’t the cheapest curtains out there. However, I still think they are reasonably priced for what you get. My exact curtains are currently $112 per panel (52″ width x 96″ length in grey beige), and similar pinch pleat curtains from Pottery Barn (50″ width x 96″ length in oatmeal) are $219.
I did pay less when I purchased my curtains in 2021. So it is true that the price has increased. Personally I still think they are a great value, but my goal on the blog is just to provide information and photos to help you decide what is best for you and your home. Thanks for the honest comment! 🙂
