Welcome friends–it’s an exciting day! After months of planning, I can hardly believe it is WEEK ONE of the One Room Challenge! I have loved following along during the last few challenges (they take place each fall and spring), but this is my first time participating. I figured it would be the perfect motivation to design a modern traditional guest room for our home. Today I am sharing my mood board, before photos, and design checklist. Let’s get started!

Our guest room “before” is by no means awful; however, it could use an update. I selected the nightstands, lamps, and artwork soon after we moved into our new build almost three years ago, when I was just falling in love with interiors and didn’t have my style nailed down yet. The space is cozy enough, but the coastal elements are a bit overt for my taste these days. The room could also use a headboard and rug to ground the space, and more contrast and color.

The first step in this makeover is to paint the walls! When we built our home, we were able to choose one color to use throughout. I enjoyed the gray for a while, but recently I’ve been painting everything white and I just love the look. Excited to get this makeover started with painting–check back next week to see!

Tada! Here is the guest room mood board that I have working on for MONTHS–I can hardly wait to see this space come to life! A few of the pieces have already arrived and they are even prettier in person. I’m excited to be working with a few amazing sponsors for this challenge: Brookside Home Designs and Hudson Valley Lighting! (I was not able to link the sconces above, but you may find them HERE!)

A few of the design elements may still change. I haven’t decided on nightstands yet, but I love the rustic meets modern look of these ones. I’m also still on the hunt for pillows (one of my favorite pastimes 😉 ), but I do think the combination in the mood board is so pretty!

Design Checklist

I thought it would be fun (and helpful) to share a checklist each week, so here it is!

  • Paint walls Cameo White by Behr
  • Hang curtains
  • Sell old decor pieces
  • Place rug under bed
  • Install headboard
  • Replace nightstands
  • Install sconces
  • Select artwork, bench, and decor accents
  • Style the space!

I’m happy to say that I have already checked a few things off this list! Be sure to visit next week to see what progress we have made 🙂 If you would like, you sign up for my email list to receive posts right in your inbox. And for more behind the scenes, follow along on Instagram!
