How to Organize Barbies and Accessories the Easy Way
If you are looking for realistic Barbie storage ideas that kids will actually use, this post about how to organize Barbies is for you!
We are big fans of Barbie dolls at our house. Apart from a Barbie collection, we also have Ken dolls, Chelsea kid dolls, and Disney princesses. They spark hours of imaginative play, but all of the little pieces can be hard to organize.

After trying out several ways to store Barbies, we have landed on a system that works for us. I hope you find these pictures and ideas helpful if you need simple ways to keep the clutter at bay!

My Favorite Way to Organize Barbies: Barbie Wall Display
My top choice for storing Barbies in kids’ bedrooms is a wall rack. These are typically designed for displaying books, and we have used the same shelf for that purpose!

You can also use other types of wall shelves or magazine racks. The key is that the shelf needs a tall ledge (or dowel rod like ours) to keep the Barbies upright.
This is the best way to organize Barbies in my opinion because they are in plain sight, easy access, and kids can find the doll they are looking for. It is also simple to set the dolls back on the shelves when it is time to clean up.

I used this white wall rack, but I also love this one which comes in white, pink, or gray. These types of shelves are narrow and can even fit behind a door.
Another option would be to use individual wall shelves. This way, you can arrange them in a way that works for your particular situation, and they don’t require any floor space at all.
More Easy Storage Ideas for Barbies
Here are some more clever Barbie organization ideas that are great for kids!
1. How to Organize Barbies: Hanging Door Organizer
I’ve seen a lot of people use a hanging shoe organizer for Barbies. This is a great solution if you are out of wall space in your kids’ bedrooms. Over the door organizers are perfect for closet doors and they can hold a lot of items. I used one in our front closet for art supplies!
The only downside to door organizers in my opinion is that they can get heavy and/or slide around on the door. Sometimes the pockets are too short and wide for Barbies and the dolls fall out. So, I would choose a sturdy organizer with tall, narrow pockets.
2. How to Organize Barbies: Storage Bin Under the Bed
Secondly, you can store Barbies in shallow bins under your child’s bed (or other furniture in a living room play area).

I love the Trofast bins from IKEA because they are sturdy and the perfect size to hold about 10 Barbie dolls. We also use them for Barbie accessories and clothes (see How to Store Barbie Stuff below) because they are easy to access and maintain.
3. How to Organize Barbies: Sliding Drawer Unit
Finally, a sliding drawer organizer can be a great way to store Barbies. The Trofast bins I mentioned above fit into the Trofast system from IKEA, which is my favorite option! You can see it in this post about my son’s Lego organization.

You can also find sliding drawer units from other stores. We have the Target version (bins here) in our craft closet. I love these because kids can easily remove the bin and carry it.
Cube organizers can work too, but the fabric cube bins are too big for Barbie stuff in my opinion. If you have a cube organizer, try using short clear bins so that kids can find Barbies easily!
How to Store Barbie Stuff
In addition to storing and/or displaying Barbie dolls, you probably need a way to store all of those small accessories. Most of the Barbie doll storage solutions I shared above will also work great for Barbie’s clothes and other small pieces.
1. Shallow Storage Bins
If it were up to me, I would have all of the tiny shoes, outfits, and decor items sorted perfectly, haha. (See idea 2 below!) But that’s just not realistic for some kids, and it is much easier to clean up if you can just throw everything into a few bins.

I recommend using shallow bins so that small items are easy to locate. We currently have our Barbie accessories stored in my daughter’s room under the bed, but you could also use a sliding drawer storage unit like I mentioned above for dolls.
2. Hanging Travel Organizer
Secondly, try using a travel toiletry bag to store different items. The various zippered compartments can hold shoes, clothes, and accessories. For an extra dose of organization, you could use a label maker to print labels for each section.

Here’s an example using this toiletry organizer, size large. I was able to fit several dolls inside as well.
Travel organizers often have a hook for hanging, which is great if you are brave enough to bring all of those little pieces in a car or on an airplane. (If so, you are calmer than me and I love that for you!) Or, simply use the hook to hang it on a closet rod or behind a door.
A travel organizer would be my personal choice if my kids enjoyed sorting everything, but right now the shallow storage bins work best for us.
3. Barbie Carrying Case
Another idea for Barbie stuff would be a carrying case or Barbie closet. This is a good storage system for smaller collections, or to take a few different outfits on the go.
Mattel makes several Barbie closets, such as this one and this one.
4. Bead Organizer
Finally, try using a plastic bead organizer for Barbie shoes and small accessories. The divided sections are perfect for tiny pieces.
This type of system requires more work and may be better for older kids who enjoy organizing. But I do like how it keeps items in plain sight! No more hunting down matching shoes when Barbie just needs to get out the door 😉
