It has been two years since I revealed my daughter’s vintage floral big girl room! This spring I wanted to give the space a refresh on a budget. We needed to make room for the large wooden dollhouse she received for Christmas, as well as the cozy reading chair that replaced her glider. I also wanted to elevate the space with interior designer inspired elements such as block print bedding, pink velvet curtains, and vintage artwork. To start this room refresh, I ordered a mauve block print quilt from the Studio McGee line at Target (size full). It pairs so well with the other muted pink bedding my daughter already had. Unfortunately the pillows and throw are no longer available, but here are some similar options: mauve pillow / floral pillow / pink gauze throw.

We already had the cream upholstered bed and I highly recommend it for kids learning to sleep in a big kid bed. It is low to the ground and the headboard is soft!

Mauve Pink Velvet Curtains

As soon as a saw these pink velvet curtains I knew they would be a perfect update for this room! Previously we had white curtains which were okay, but not very cozy. The velvet curtains add so much visual warmth to the space, and the color (“wild rose”) is my favorite shade of pink. I got the 96″ length and hung the rod extra high and wide to make our eight foot ceilings appear taller. Check out additional velvet curtain colors!

Cozy Girls’ Bedroom Vintage Artwork

Using vintage artwork in a kids’ room is a great way to elevate the space and make it feel classic but whimsical at the same time. I had this Sunrise By the Sea I vintage landscape printed and framed by Frame It Easy (26×11, gold Granby).

I recently worked with Collection Prints on Instagram to add their Foraged Flowers still life print over my daughter’s IKEA dresser. The muted green and and neutrals are just perfect! This is a 20×30 floating canvas with a natural frame.

Finally, here are the neutral botanical sketches I shared above: Botanical I / Botanical II

Cozy Girls’ Bedroom Book Ledges

Is there anything more cozy than a library? I love using book ledges in kids’ rooms because they are both functional and decorative, and add a cozy vibe. It is also fun to swap out the books seasonally. Here I used kids’ books with a pastel color scheme.

I also swapped out the glider for the Berea slouchy lounge chair from Target in textured mushroom. We have the same chairs in white in our living room. The chair is big enough for us to sit next to each other and read cozy books at bedtime!

Side note: the scalloped side table was also from Target several years ago but sadly no longer available. Here is another option.

Faux Flowering Cherry Blossom Tree

If you saw my design plan for this cozy girls’ bedroom, you’ll know that I had picked out a different artificial tree, but my daughter wanted pink 😉 I can’t blame her and think this 6 ft cherry blossom tree looks pretty cute!

Natural Rattan Doll Crib

Every time I share this rattan doll crib on Instagram I receive questions about it. I will admit that it was a splurge–I got it for Ladybug a few Christmases ago. Here is another option that is similar and more affordable. Although they are an investment, natural rattan toys and decor can be a great choice. They are made of a sustainable material and add an organic vibe. Perfect for a cozy’ girls bedroom!

Whimsical Wooden Dollhouse

Speaking of Christmas, Ladybug just received this large wooden dollhouse and we had to find a home for it! Her cube organizer used to be here, but we moved it into the closet. I know she will enjoy the dollhouse for years to come, and bonus: it is it is adorable decor for a kids’ room.

Note that I cleaned the dollhouse for photos, but it is typically home to about fifteen Barbie’s who enjoy partying in the pool, elevator, and various rooms at all hours of the day and night, lol!

Cozy Girls’ Bedroom Tips

Here is a summary of my tips for creating a stylish and cozy girls’ bedroom:

  1. Layer bedding and pillows. Mix patterns for a designer look.
  2. Hang curtains high and wide to make ceilings look taller.
  3. Incorporate vintage art for a classic look.
  4. Style a cozy library corner with a chair and book ledges.
  5. Include an artificial tree or faux stems for an organic vibe.
  6. Use favorite toys such as a dollhouse as decor.
