Labor Day weekend has passed, and while we still have a few warm days ahead of us, I’m getting excited for cozy fall decor! So, today I thought I would share fall bedroom decor ideas to help you get inspired for the season ahead. I recently styled our guest room with earth tones, layered bedding, warm metals, and vintage inspired nightstand decor. These pieces are perfect for autumn, but they will also transition well to other seasons. Keep reading for cozy fall bedroom inspiration!

Idea 1: Fall Bedroom Decor Color Palette
One of the most important steps to decorating a bedroom for any season is choosing a color palette. For fall, I love warm, earthy tones!
I recommend selecting two or three colors, plus a few neutrals, that you will focus on with your home decor to achieve a cohesive look. Here is the color palette I chose for our fall guest room:
- Terracotta: textured pillows and floral pillows
- Muted blue: striped lumbar pillow
- Cream beige: headboard and books
- Light gray: floral sheets and sweater throw
- Dark brown: wood nightstands and metal asterisk
Of course, you may include a few other pops of color, such as faux maple leaves for an extra autumn touch!
Idea 2: Cozy Layers for Fall Bedroom Decor
Secondly, if you’ve ever wanted to make your bed extra luxurious like an interior design catalog, you will love this idea! Layering bedding is simple and creates a fluffy, cozy look using pieces you already have. Here are the layers I used:
Sheets
I’m loving these patterned sheets for fall (after you click, select “Queen” and color “Khaki” if it does not come up). To create a layered look, I folded the top sheet back about one third of the length of the bed which created enough space to place all the pillows on top.
Designer tip: Be sure to place the top sheet upside down if you are using patterned sheets, so that the pattern shows when you fold it down.
Quilt or Bed Blanket
I recently starting using a textured quilt which is so cozy for fall bedding! I like to fold the quilt down so that the top lands right in front of my decorative pillows.
Duvet and Duvet Cover
You can never go wrong with a white duvet cover. Since I used patterned sheets, I kept my duvet simple. However, you could easily do the opposite and use solid sheets and a patterned duvet for a bolder look. I simply folded my duvet in half to create another layer (and to make it look extra fluffy!).
Chunky Knit Bed Blanket
A throw blanket draped at the end of a bed creates a welcoming, casual look. For the cooler months, I love a chunky knit throw!
Bed Pillows and Throw Pillows
For my pillowcases, I decided to use one patterned set and one white set. Since this is a queen bed, I then used two 24 x 24 textured pillows, two 20 x 20 floral pillows, and a 14 x 24 blue lumbar. For a king bed you could use three pillows at the back if you would like.
Idea 3: Cozy Fall Nightstand Decorating Ideas
Thirdly, here are some fall bedroom decor ideas to cozy up your nightstands!
- Add Height: If you are using table lamps or wall sconces, this step is already complete! In addition, try using stacked books, decorative boxes, or flowers in a vase. Adding height elevates the look. (See what I did there?)
- Use Functional Pieces: Secondly, style a pretty clock, small bowl or tray for jewelry, or your current reads for functional decor.
- Create Groupings: Finally, a simple way to style a nightstand is with groupings of three objects. My groupings are box/books/vase and framed art/books/object. Use pieces of various sizes and textures for interest!
Idea 4: Cozy Fall Bedroom Decor With a Rug
Finally, I wanted to mention this vintage look rug because it is the perfect addition to any cozy bedroom. I do not swap out area rugs every season by any means, but this one happens to be very autumnal with hues of olive, gold, charcoal, and terracotta.
