For example, you can style a console table:

  • Behind a sofa to help define an open floor plan.
  • In a hallway or small loft area.
  • Against an empty wall in a living room.
  • As a buffet server in a dining room.
  • In a bedroom if you do not need a dresser.

In our home, we have one console table in our entryway, and another against a small wall in our living room.

If you prefer, you can jump to the step-by-step guide or decor finds.

1. Traditional Entryway Console Table

Here is the current console table decor in our entryway. A large mirror takes center stage, while wall sconces and large palm branches create a cohesive look.

3. Boho Entry Table Styling

Looking back even further, our first entry table was built by a friend based on the Ana White Rustic X Console plans. (I will share similar console tables below in case you are looking for one!) I decorated this entrance table so many different ways, as you will see.

For this minimalist boho look, I used pampas grass, striped storage baskets, and layered artwork. Other creative ideas for a boho vibe would be trailing plants such as ivy, or macrame decorative items.

4. Modern Entryway Table Decor Ideas

In order to create a modern entrance table look, I used a monochrome color palette of black and white, plus neutral tones.

In addition, a round mirror is one of my favorite items to hang above a console table! A large mirror serves a practical purpose in an entry, providing a place for last minute styling. Similarly, baskets create storage space for shoes, slippers, or other everyday items.

Finally, the large vase is the same one I used in for my summer table decor–I just gave it a makeover with matte black spray paint.

5. Coastal Console Table Decor

On the other hand, this design uses a large piece of art for a pop of color. The beachy blues, fresh flowers, and striped throw blanket create a coastal vibe.

Step-By-Step Guide to Console Table Decor

Here are the guidelines I follow when styling a console table:

1. Begin with the console table.

There are many types of tables to choose from, depending on your design style. In the next section of this post I will share lots of entry table options!

Side note: Today we are focusing on traditional console tables that sit up against a wall, but if you have a round table, you may find this post helpful.

2. Add a large mirror or art.

Artwork and wall decor add visual appeal to the space and provide a focal point. Whether you use a large piece of art or mirror, you will want to be sure that the scale of the piece is large enough to fill the space above your entry table.

Scale is one of the most important factors when it comes to creating a high end, designer look. When in doubt, choose a larger piece than you think you need!

One additional option would be to create a gallery wall of family photos for a personal touch. Using matching picture frames, you can create the illusion of a large piece of art.

3. Use a large vase or table lamps.

Likewise, it is important to ground the design with larger decorative pieces at the end of the table. In many cases, I have used a large vase on one end and a table lamp on the other. You could also use two matching table lamps, or include larger items such as leaning artwork or decorative elements.

4. Add functional storage space.

I’m always looking for smart storage solutions. As much as I want our home to look stylish, functional spaces are important for our family.

Large baskets create a drop zone for shoes, toys, blankets, backpacks–anything you would rather not look at. I also stacked decorative boxes which are useful for keys, makeup, and other small items.

5. Complete the space with decorative items.

Faux branches or fresh greenery are a great starting point. In the photo above, I used artificial greenery stems that I already had. After that, I finished the look with smaller decor items. Stacked coffee table books add a little height and create a lived-in feel. Finally, decorative objects such as a trinket dish or sculpture add a touch of whimsy.
