Welcome friends, and happy Tuesday! I can hardly believe that September is almost here. I have to say, I’m looking forward to crisp days, autumn leaves, scarves and apple cider. Still, I am trying to soak up these last few weeks of summertime. Today I’m sharing a look at our modern coastal bedroom decor, which has seen some big changes recently. I painted the walls white, added a charcoal headboard, and refreshed our bedding! Please, come on in 🙂
Thank you so much to Brookside for sending us the lovely headboard! As always, all opinions are my own. This post contains affiliate links. By clicking a link and making a purchase, you can help support my blog at no additional cost to you! For my full disclosure policy, click here.
Cameo White Walls
Let’s start with the change that was by far the most work–the white walls! If you remember, the walls in our primary bedroom were gray (like the rest of our home). You can see the before here and here. I’ve been on a painting spree, and now that our downstairs is all white, I’m getting to work on the bedrooms.
I decided to use a different white up here, mainly because I really wanted one coat coverage. I love the color I used downstairs, Polar Bear by Behr, but it is not a Marquee color, and needed two coats.
So, I went with Cameo White by Behr for our bedroom, and I love it! It is a creamy white with red undertones that has slightest hint of pink in low lighting, but don’t let that scare you. It is so inviting for a bedroom, and I plan to use it in the guest room as well.
Brookside Upholstered Headboard
Of course, the other big change in here is this gorgeous tufted headboard by Brookside! I’ve been wanting to swap out our headboard for a while (again, see our old one here), so when Brookside reached out to me I jumped at the opportunity to work with them. Our old headboard was more traditional, and the curved top bothered me–I could never figure out what to hang above it without making the space feel too busy. I’m loving clean lines and the modern look of our new headboard.
I still need to add artwork above the bed, and would love to swap out the lamps for brass sconces soon, but these two changes have made a world of difference in this space. Now it fits with the style I am aiming for in our home: an airy blend of modern, coastal, and casual.
Fresh Bedding
More room makeovers and reveals!
Why is it that bedrooms always get the bottom of the barrel decor (at least in my home)? I think it is because most people don’t make it upstairs to see my bedroom, so in the past I have always put it low on my priority list. However, now that I’ve spruced up our space, it truly brings me joy every morning when I wake up, and every evening when I go to sleep!
Our bedding is relatively simple. For the base of this look, I just used an inexpensive duvet and white duvet cover. We like having a blanket on top of the bed for extra warmth or naps, and recently added this pretty cream quilt. I think it adds a feminine touch to balance out the headboard, and keeps the space feeling soft and light!
Modern Coastal Nightstand Styling
As for our weathered wood nightstands, I still love them and think they work with any decor style! They have so much storage and are a great price point if you are looking for budget friendly decor. I spruced them up with a few new styling pieces, and stacked books under the lamps to add height. Eventually I would like to do brass sconces, but am taking my time. I like to mull over design decisions and enjoy each stage 🙂
Simple Dresser Decor
Here is the last little area of our bedroom that I refreshed recently. We’ve had our IKEA Hemnes dresser for about a year and love it. It has a clean and modern look, great storage, and you cannot beat the price! If you are far from an IKEA, you can also find it on Amazon, but it is more expensive there.
To refresh this space, I simply used two trays to corral decorative accents. The only new piece is the faux plant; all of the others were already around our home. It’s fun to mix things up and create new looks! After playing with this space for a while, I feel that it’s starting to come together. Ideally I’d like to remove one of the trays in favor of a large lamp, but enjoying this view for now.
Modern Coastal Bedroom Future Plans
I am so happy with how our casual coastal primary bedroom is progressing! The only things I would still like to add are:
- A vintage-look rug with subtle blue and gray tones (I used my beautiful Sukhi rug for styling here, but would like an 8×10 to fill out this space.)
- A framed landscape or sketch above the bed
- Brass sconces to replace the table lamps
However, these items will probably have to wait as I am gearing up to makeover our guest room for the One Room Challenge in October! This will be my first time participating and I’m very excited. I’ll be sharing my progress weekly, so stay tuned!
Thanks so much for stopping by today friends! I hope you enjoyed this look at our coastal bedroom. What spaces are you working on or daydreaming about in your home? Let me know below.
