Welcome friends! Today I’m excited to share coastal bedroom ideas in partnership with one of my favorite brands, Serena and Lily. Keep reading for a bedroom makeover with a light blue and neutral coastal color palette, plus greenery and wicker sconces. In addition, cozy linen bedding layers and tasseled pillows give the space coastal charm! These ideas are perfect for beach house or cottage, but will add a beachy vibe to your home no matter where you live.

Our primary bedroom leans modern coastal with a charcoal headboard and lots of neutrals and texture. But these coastal bedroom ideas are just as useful for a traditional coastal bedroom. I hope you find this post inspiring if you are designing your own space!

Quality Bedding for a Coastal Bedroom

A main goal for this coastal bedroom makeover was to update our quilt and duvet cover with quality bedding. I recently added linen bedding to our guest room, and have been jealous of our guests ever since! There is nothing like a relaxing bedroom to escape to at the end of a long day, so I wanted to create a space that feels like a haven at home.

Both casual and luxurious, linen is perfect for a coastal bedroom. I decided to go with Serena and Lily’s Cavallo Linen Duvet Cover in Flax Chambray (similar) as well as three euro shams (similar) for our king sized bed. The European linen is soft and beautiful, and euro pillows work great as backrests when relaxing.

2024 Update: My exact duvet cover and euro shams are no longer available, but the new Portofino Linen Duvet Cover and Linen Shams are almost exactly the same!

Secondly, the Sutter Linen Quilt is a piece I have had my eye on for a while. I especially love the fluffy quilted texture and generous size. The quilt is breathable yet cozy, with linen on one side and cotton on the other, making it perfect for year round use.

In terms of a color palette for our coastal bedding, I decided to use white and natural linen to contrast with our charcoal headboard. However, all of these pieces are available in other colors as well!

Who says a coastal bedroom can’t feel cozy? I used two Cayucos Pillow Covers in Sky/Ivory for decorative pillows. They are a soft powder blue with dainty tassels that add a coastal boho vibe. For a finishing touch, I layered Serena and Lily’s Beachcomber Throw in Fog over the duvet. Together, the neutral tones and relaxed linen create a calming space.

When it comes to primary bedrooms, we may be tempted to think, No one sees this space, so why invest in it? But I have found that a relaxing bedroom gives me a place to escape, sip tea, read a book, and let go of the stresses of the day. This is my happy place!

Last year I purchased two of Serena and Lily’s Flynn Wall Sconce in brass with wicker shades for our primary bedroom. They are the perfect wall lighting for a coastal bedroom! The natural texture of the shade paired with the oil-rubbed bronze and brass of the swing arm helps create a modern coastal look.

Finally, here is our coastal bedroom area rug (size 9′ x 12′ under a king bed)! The combination of light blue and warm neutrals provides a cozy base for our primary bedroom.

In addition, I styled up the space with faux greenery, seagrass boxes, coastal landscape wall art, and baskets. These exact pieces are no longer available, but here are some similar options:

Ideas for Decorating a Coastal Bedroom

Follow these guidelines to design your own coastal bedroom!

1. Choose a coastal color palette.

Our bedroom has a color palette of light blue and neutrals, but other coastal colors to try are navy, teal, green, blush, and peach. I would recommend choosing 1-2 colors and 2-3 neutrals.

2. Invest in quality bedding.

For a luxurious bedroom, high quality bedding is a necessity. Linen is a great natural fiber that keeps you cool in the summer and warm in the winter, and only gets softer with washes. For a more budget friendly option, choose cotton sheets.

3. Layer pillows and throws.

I like to fold my duvet down twice so it looks extra fluffy and toss a blanket over the end of the bed. As for pillows, layer larger sizes at the back (24″ or 26″) and smaller sizes at the front (20″ or 22″).

4. Add coastal decor accents.

Complete your coastal bedroom with natural elements such as greenery, woven textures, and landscape artwork.
