Come see our budget-friendly entryway refresh! A newly painted black front door creates character in our entry, and a woolen loop rug by Sukhi adds warmth and texture.
Welcome friends! Today I’m sharing our simple and budget-friendly entryway refresh which includes our newly painted black front door and some simple styling. I’m also excited to be sharing a very special woolen loop rug from Sukhi! I’m so glad you’re here; let’s get started 🙂
Thank you so much to Sukhi for sending me the beautiful rug for this post! As always, all opinions are my own. For my full disclosure policy, click here.
Front Door Before and After
Pardon the iPhone photos, but here is our front door “before.” The walls were Sherwin Williams Passive in a flat finish which was looking pretty bad after two and a half years. Apart from the paint, this space just felt empty. My goal was to add character and texture, but to keep the overall look simple and functional.
Since last winter, I have been slowly painting all of our walls downstairs Behr Polar Bear in eggshell, and these were the final gray walls (apart from the ones that go up two stories–we’ll eventually hire someone to paint those!). So, I put on Baby Shark for the kiddos 😉 and got these walls painted one morning a few weeks ago.
As I’m sure you know by now, I love white when it comes to decor. Most of our home is white or off-white 😉 But this was too much white even for me! Painting the door black had already been on my mind thanks to Kelly over at Hartley Home Design, and once I saw the white walls, I knew I had to go for it!
The exterior of our front door was already black, so I simply chose a color that looked similar for the interior. I went with Limousine Leather by Behr in a satin finish.* It’s amazing what a difference a bit of paint can make! The black trim really elevates the space and makes it feel more custom.
*Note for those interested in painting a door: I used the Marquee line which is supposed to be one coat coverage, but still ended up needing two coats. Honestly, I didn’t mind. It was a small area, and with all of the detail work around the trim, and the shiny finish on the door, one coat would have been a bit of a miracle. Two coats look great and I still only used a quart of paint! (I also used the Marquee line on my blue accent wall, and that covered with one coat perfectly.)

A few frames, a basket, and a faux fiddle helped to fill out this space, but our new wool rug is the star of the show! Let me tell you more about it.
A Special Rug from Sukhi
The Kabir woolen loop rug is handcrafted, cozy, and beautiful. I love the natural materials and the variation in the color of the wool. Each time I walk by I have to stand on the rug and wiggle my toes because it is so soft! Sukhi’s wool and felt rugs are considered to be heirloom quality because of their durability.
Is it strange that a rug makes me happy? Not in this case, since Sukhi means “happy” in Nepali 🙂
Apart from their beautiful rugs, I love Sukhi’s mission. Sukhi values quality craftsmanship and traditional rug making, but most importantly, they value artisans. Their craftspeople earn fair wages–often 2-3 times the average pay in their region–that help them support their families and communities.
My woolen loop rug was handmade in India! I loved learning about the process of making a wool or felt rug, and watching THIS beautiful video about some of Sukhi’s artisans.
I hope you will give Sukhi a visit and check out their beautiful woolen loop rugs. Thanks again to Sukhi for sending us the beautiful rug, it is just perfect in our entryway 🙂
Thank you so much for stopping by today friends! Tell me, how do you like to style your entryway? What projects (little or big) are you working on?
