If you work from home and would like to create a small home office in a bedroom or guest room, keep reading! Last week I shared our primary bedroom, and today I’m excited to reveal my cozy office nook. This is a small space in the corner of the bedroom, between the window and the dresser. I styled my office area with an adjustable standing desk, comfy desk chair, and vintage art gallery wall to inspire me while I work! This post is all about bedroom office ideas for a functional home office.

Small Home Office Nook Before
This is my bedroom office nook before. I do not have a dedicated room for my office, so this small space in the corner of my bedroom has to do double duty.
What I Liked About my Bedroom Office
- I really liked the plaid upholstered desk chair.
- Secondly, the desk placement next to the dresser is perfect.
- Finally, this area gets plenty of natural light!
What I Wanted to Change
- Since I don’t have much space, I wanted to hang the artwork above the desk area so I have more functional workspace.
- In addition, the wooden desk was cute but ended up being a bit wobbly (maybe because of the carpet) and I didn’t love it paired with the desk chair.
- Finally, this home office space needed a larger lamp to ground the dresser styling.
Small Bedroom Office Design Plan
Next, I created a mood board to help me visualize my office area in this little nook.
Designing a mood board is a great way to imagine what your home office space will look like. In addition to “trying on” several desks, I was also able to plan my vintage art gallery wall and avoid making even more holes in the wall.
Finally, I saved up for a new home office desk, picture frames, artwork, and storage solutions. Ready to see the office nook reveal?
Small Home Office Ideas for a Bedroom
I’m so excited to share photos of my cozy office area! Most importantly, this section will include bedroom office ideas to help you create your own dedicated work space at home.
Define a Bedroom Office Work Area
If you are creating a small home office in your bedroom or spare room, it is important to create a dedicated space where you plan to work. This will help you to maintain a work-life balance and keep clutter at bay.
I decided that my work area would be in this small space between the bedroom window and the dresser. It was the perfect spot for a desk!
Layout options for a small bedroom office:
- Put your desk between the wall and the dresser. (This is what I did!)
- Place your desk on one side of the bed instead of a nightstand.
- If you don’t need a dresser, center your desk on the opposite wall from the bed.
- Put your desk in front of a window with curtains or a shade to filter natural light.
Adjustable Standing Desk (or Small Desk)
I originally had a simple desk with drawers, but realized quickly that I would like to have the option to stand. So, I purchased this adjustable standing desk (black, 42 x 24). I hung my artwork just high enough so that is still above the desk in standing position!
Comfy Desk Chair for a Small Bedroom Office
I love how this plaid upholstered chair adds coziness to this corner and balances the sleek, modern desk. Here are some more options in case you are looking for an upholstered, rolling, or ergonomic chair for your home office.
Vintage Art Gallery Wall for a Small Home Office
I have to say, the vintage art gallery wall is my favorite part of this office area. I spent months mulling over landscapes and drawings that would inspire me while working! Since my husband has his own dedicated office space in our guest bedroom, I wanted this cozy corner to represent me.
Each piece of artwork has a special meaning and I absolutely love seeing the gallery wall every day. In addition, the frames fill the vertical space about the desk which makes the work area feel balanced.
Gallery wall art details: The larger frames are 14 x 18 inches, and the smaller frames are all 8 x 10 inches. The printable artwork and frames are linked below, and I ordered giclee prints from Mpix. (Use “deep matte photographic” paper for paintings and “fine art photographic” paper for line drawings.)
Extra Storage for Home Office Supplies
My previous small desk had a few drawers, so I needed to find a way to store office supplies, laptop cables, and my planner pads with the adjustable standing desk.
These cream drawers are large enough to hold papers and provide just enough storage for me! Here are some more storage solutions and practical items for a small bedroom office.
Good Lighting for a Small Bedroom Office
Any office area needs good lighting for a functional workspace. You may have plenty of natural light from a window, but it is still important to have a desk lamp for rainy days and evenings.
This large lamp on the dresser is sufficient for me, but here are some cute desk lamps if you need one!
