Welcome friends, I hope you are well today. Last week I shared a primary bedroom update, and today I’m excited to reveal my bedroom office nook! This is a corner of our bedroom with an electric standing desk, comfy desk chair, and vintage art gallery wall to inspire me while I work. If you’ve been following along on Instagram, you’ll know that this has been a long term project. I love gallery walls, but they are harder than they seem! I am finally happy with it, and this space is complete. I’ll share a little before and after, as well as tips for creating a pretty yet functional bedroom office nook.

Bedroom Office Nook Before

This is how my bedroom office nook looked last November. I had purchased the wooden desk with drawers and the windowpane plaid chair, but had not decided what to hang on the wall. After taking these photos, I attempted several gallery wall configurations–and made almost 40 holes in my wall in the process!–but they didn’t feel right.

The desk was cute but ended up being a bit wobbly (maybe because of the carpet?) and I didn’t love it paired with the chair. The space also needed a larger lamp to ground the dresser styling.

I realized that I would prefer an electric sit to stand desk, so I created a mockup of the space. I then tried several more configurations digitally to avoid making more holes in the wall! Many of you expressed interest in a blog post sharing how to create a mood board. 2022 UPDATE: learn how to create a mood board here!

Finally, I saved up for the desk, frames, and artwork, and was finally able to bring my vision to life…

I am so pleased with this completed space! The vintage art gallery wall is my favorite part of the design. I spent several months mulling over landscapes and drawings that would inspire me while working. My husband has his own office space in our guest room, so I wanted this cozy corner to represent me. Each piece has a special meaning and I absolutely love seeing it each day. Especially since it took several attempts and lots of creative energy to complete!

Gallery wall details: the larger frames are 14×18, and the smaller frames are all 8×10. The printable artwork and frames are linked above, and I ordered giclee prints from Mpix. (Use “deep matte photographic” paper for paintings and “fine art photographic” paper for line drawings.)

I wanted to share a few tips for creating an office in your bedroom that is both pretty and functional:

  1. Consider a sit to stand desk. I started out with a regular desk but realized quickly that I would like to have the option to stand, so I purchased this electric standing desk (black, 42 x 24). I hung my artwork just high enough so that is still above the desk in standing position!
  2. Choose a comfy chair. I love how this windowpane plaid chair (available in many colors) adds coziness to this corner and balances the sleek, modern desk.
  3. Include accessible storage. My previous desk had a few drawers, and I needed to find a way to store office supplies, laptop cables, and my planner pads. These cream drawers with gold pulls are large enough to hold papers and provide just enough storage.
  4. Don’t forget lighting. Since my dresser is so close, the large lamp is sufficient. But you may also consider a smaller lamp for your desk, like this one or this one.
  5. Finish it off with decor and layers. I loved creating a gallery wall, but you could also use a pin board, shelf, or two large pieces of art. For texture and dimension, I hung two hats (similar brown, similar cream) on the adjacent wall, and completed the look with a dipped vase, faux flowers, and a cotton throw.

  1. hi caitlin! i LOVE this space. I tried to click on the florals, but looks like the page cannot be found. Do you have any other recommendations for ones that are similar to these?

    1. Hi Courtney! The digital art is linked right at the bottom of the post, simply tap on the product image to shop. I ordered giclee prints from Mpix. (Use “deep matte photographic” paper for paintings and “fine art photographic” paper for line drawings.) Hope that helps!
