Well friends, I made a last minute decision to join in the fun for the Spring 2020 One Room Challenge as a guest participant! My first ORC was last fall, when I made over our guest bedroom. I had so much fun and loved meeting other interiors lovers! This time around I will be transforming our dining room, and as always, attempting to achieve a high end look on a budget. Today I’m sharing some before photos, my dining room mood board, and a design checklist. Let’s get started!

Here are some quick iPhone before photos! I did a little dining room refresh last year, when I painted a blue accent wall and added the minimalist landscape artwork. It was a major improvement, but I’m excited to give this space a more polished look.

Tada! What do you think? Many of the pieces here are inspirational and probably not the exact pieces I will use (while I love this McGee & Co artwork, it’s not quite in my budget!). As of right now I am planning to keep my existing white table, and hopefully update the chairs. I’m still in the process of selecting a light fixture, but am hoping for something modern to balance the traditional table, rug, and floors. I am excited to be partnering with Revival Rugs, and this one-of-a-kind vintage beauty has already arrived! Can’t wait to show you soon. Finally, we’re adding modern wall paneling to the main wall! It will be a simple board and batten design, and I think it will make this space look more high end and custom. Can’t wait!

Design Checklist

Last time I did the ORC, I created a checklist to help me week by week. Here are a few things I will be working on:

  • Remove existing curtain rods and patch walls
  • Repaint blue wall
  • Add board and batten
  • DIY black vintage vase
  • Install new curtain rods and curtains
  • Install new light fixture
  • Add vintage rug
  • Replace chairs
  • Reorganize toys
  • Restyle toy storage bookshelf
  • Style the space!

I’m excited to get started! Be sure to join my email list to stay up to date, and for daily updates, follow along on Instagram 🙂

  1. Love your plan. Can’t wait to see it all come together. We have similar chairs in our breakfast nook and love them😊
