A Simple Entryway Update
Here is a quick look back at some of our entryway styling over the past year:

It is fun to see how this space has evolved. Now, here is another look at our current entry styling:
Recently I’ve been loving a modern traditional look with a hint of boho. I considered painting our console table gray to make it look more modern (vs cottage/farmhouse), but decided against it for now. Instead, I shopped my home for a few modern decor accents and added these large striped baskets (similar, similar). Oh, and see that black vase? It used to be cream–a little matte black spray paint completely changed the look 🙂
This round brass mirror was in our master, but I’m loving it here! A few simple changes, and the entry feels much more modern. Tip: Try playing with the decor in your home. Move pieces around, stand back, and live with it for a few days. You can create a whole new look by mixing and matching styles 🙂
Entryway Styling Ideas and Tricks
Now that you know that I’m restyling addict 😉 Here are a few guidelines I follow when styling an entryway console table:
- Begin with the wall. Whether you use artwork, wall decor, or a mirror, you will want to be sure that the scale of the piece is large enough to fill the visual space above your console. I honestly think that SCALE is one of the most important factors when it comes to creating a high end look. When in doubt, choose a larger piece than you think you need!
- Ground the console with large accents. In this case, I am using a lamp and vase (similar). You could also use two matching lamps, or include a large decorative object or layered artwork leaning against the wall.
- Add storage. This is an entryway after all! As much as I want it to look pretty, functionality is important. Large baskets create spaces for shoes, toys, blankets, backpacks–anything you would rather not look at 😉 I also used stacked decorative boxes which are useful for keys, wallets, or makeup.
- Use accents that make you happy! I love greenery, so I filled my vase with faux ginkgo stems (similar). Stacked coffee table books are pretty and also fun to peruse. Finally, an unexpected object such as this metal asterisk adds a touch of whimsy.
