Welcome back friends! It is WEEK 5 of the One Room Challenge, which means next week is the grand reveal! I can hardly wait to share our completed modern traditional guest room with you very soon! This week’s progress includes light fixtures, as well as tips for how to style nightstands. Let’s get started!

Brass Swing Arm Sconces

Thank you so much to Hudson Valley Lighting for sponsoring me for the One Room Challenge and providing the gorgeous swing arm wall sconces. As always, all opinions are my own. You may find my policies here.

One of the most important features of a guest room is the lighting, so it seems a fitting place to begin when it comes to styling nightstands. I’ve loved the look of swing arm sconces for a while, and Hudson Valley Lighting’s Claremont sconce in aged brass is exactly what I hoped to find!

These sconces are so lovely and really take our guestroom up a notch. They are high quality, sturdy, and so pretty! The aged brass finish feels timeless and grounds the space.

One of my favorite things about sconces? They are functional! I love that the tops of the nightstands are free for our guest’s personal items, and of course, some pretty styling 😉 Thanks again to Hudson Valley Lighting for sponsoring me for the ORC!

How to Style Nightstands, Four Ways

I had a lot of fun this week playing around with nightstand styling. I haven’t nailed down my final design yet–and I do not want to give away too much before next week’s reveal! So, here is a little tutorial on how to style nightstands, with four options. You will have to let me know in the comments which one is your favorite!

Nightstand Styling Option 1: Layered

For my first option, I layered two frames at the back of the nightstand to create height. The wood tone frame and fern print add warmth and echo the color of the terra cotta pillows. I also used a sweet photo of my husband and son from a few years ago. (If you are looking for frames and art, I have a post dedicated to 150+ Fine Art Printables that includes frame options!) In front, I used a small basket to collect guest’s keys or treasures, as well as a strand of faceted bone beads.

Nightstand Styling Option 2: Collected

I’m going to be honest–I think this look is my favorite! I popped a faux fern into a dipped ceramic planter, added a few pretty design books, and finished the look with this metal asterisk (one of my favorite styling pieces). This look is more high contrast than the first, and I love the varying textures of the cement, metal, and books.

Nightstand Styling Option 3: Natural

For option 3, I went for a natural, minimalist look, placing an air plant (faux 😉 ) and a few white pumpkins within a carved wood bowl. I love this simple look!

Nightstand Styling Option 4: Personal

For the final option, I wanted to create a more personal feel. I used a photo of my son as well as a few pretty pieces I have found over the last few years. I think it would be fun to place some treasures from a family trip in the wooden box!

I would love to hear which option you like best! Leave me a comment below with your favorite! 🙂

  1. This would have been so perfect for me this week! I literally had to look up how to style my new nightstands for the challenge. I think it ended up being the collected style you mentioned? Not sure though… maybe it’s a hybrid. 🙂
