Come cozy up in our modern Christmas living room! Simple winter decor is adorned with metallics and pops of emerald green. Festive accents deck the shelves, while staples such as blankets and throw pillows invite you to stay a while. Grab a hot cocoa and come right in!
Welcome friends! I am so excited to ring in the merry season with my first Christmassy blog post of the year, sharing our modern Christmas living room decor. This year I’m loving simple, minimalist style. Apart from a few festive accents, I was able to curate this wintery look with decor staples I use year round! Please, come right in and make yourself cozy!
Festive Pillows and Throws
If you visited this autumn and saw our fall living room, you will know that my favorite way to change the look of our space is with pillow covers. They are inexpensive, easy to store, and fun to switch out whenever the mood strikes! This season I found this cotton velvet cover in emerald green, and the printed pine needle cover for a great price. All the others were already in my collection 🙂
Another way to make any space cozy for winter is to toss around your throw blankets! I’ve found that neutrals and classic patterns like plaid layer well and work with most styles.

Modern Christmas Shelf Styling
I loved our boho inspired shelf styling for fall, but wanted to keep things a bit more classic for winter. I always struggle to define my style, but let’s call this modern classic 😉
I fell back on my usual favorites of books, baskets, and faux plants, sprinkling in some metallics and wintery accents. The botanical print is yet another page from my favorite botany book (I have it linked in my post about budget decorating with book pages!). The brass candlesticks were a Goodwill find, and the vintage Christmas sheet music was a gift from my sweet friend Heather from Beauty for Ashes Home!
When redecorating my ladder shelf, I like to take everything off and start from scratch. Bug (my three-year-old) had fun helping me organize and playing with my collection plant pots and baskets!
Minimal and Merry
I’m finding that more and more, my design style has been leaning toward the minimalist end of the spectrum. Redecorating for the seasons brings me so much joy, but I do not like having a collection of stuff that I can only use for a few months out of the year. Apart from a few decorative accents and seasonal pillow covers, I use all of these items year round, swapping them out here and there to keep our space fresh and engaging. I love the simplicity of only keeping things that I truly love and will continue using. It also makes decorating so much easier! Of course, this is just my personal taste for our home. I can appreciate elaborate Christmas decor too! 😉
